The mill

"The windmill in Georgsdorf (187: Gallerieholländer) was built in 1875 and is more than 100 years old. Its origin can be found in the union of 12 farmers from Georgsdorf. The farmers leased their mill, which they built for around 6,500 thalers.

At the beginning of the 20th century it was owned by the Geerdsen family, who also ran it until 1963. From that time on, the mill slowly deteriorated. The mill has been leased to the Georgsdorf community since 1976, with the aim of restoring it as part of the village renewal and preserving it as a monument. The first renovation took place in the early 1980s.

The Mill Association was founded in 1989 and today has 71 members (as of December 31, 2019)

Since that time the mill has been run by hobby millers.

Another renovation of the windmill was inevitable in the middle of the last few years. Among other things, the gallery was renewed and the mill stump was covered with thatch against the weather.

A gallery dutch mill consists of three parts. The substructure made of bricks

the basis for the upwardly tapering fuselage, over the cap or hood the mighty wing shaft, with the large windmill blades on one side and the "codend" on the other.

In order to use the best wind power, the mill is turned into the wind from the gallery. In order not to be dependent on the wind, a diesel engine was purchased in an annex to the mill in 1908.
