The miller's house

The history of the miller's house

The Heuerhaus, built in 1904, was part of the farm of Bernd Deters, Ostend in Georgsdorf (today Brengen).

It is no longer possible to determine who the first tenants were: the farmer Harm Schnieders from Georgsdorf owned the house with the leased land before the First World War. Until 1926, Hindrik Jan Kronemeyer and Mrs. Dina were born. Wolters (today Alte Piccardie, Am Kanal) tenant of the property. After the move, the house was renovated. Gerhard Kronemeyer and Mrs. Gese, b. Schnieders from Georgsdorf were the next tenants. Ms. Kronemeyer ran a grocery store in the house as a sideline. A corner in the eat-in kitchen for the Winkeltin. At that time there were three shops in Georgsdorf called "Bakery and Colonial Goods"

In 1938 the Kronemeyer family moved together with "(corner shop) Winkeltin" to their parents' farm in Georgsdorf Ostend. Hermann Jeurink from Berge and Mrs. Berta geb. Meyer took over the lease in 1939 until 1957. Then they built a new house on Neuer Diek. Before the Derk Gysbers family and Ms. Rika geb. Schnieders, as well as her aunt Zwenne Röttgers born. Schnieders took over the house as the owner, further renovation was necessary. Her son Heinz-Georg Gysbers and his wife Johanne, geb. Jacob's are today's rights of the property.

In 1983 the half-timbered house had to give way to a new building. After the demolition, the Georgsdorf community acquired the container. The proposal to build a half-timbered house in the Küstergarten management did not find any contact with those responsible in the parish. The wooden structure was then stored. With the establishment of the Mühlen- und Brauchtumsverein eV in 1989, the municipality made the container available to the Mühlenverein free of charge, with the wish to build a half-timbered house at the mill.

The reconstruction of the Heuerhaus

A long and different journey began with this endeavor. First of all, a location had to be found. It wasn't until 1999 that we from the Mühlenverein were able to buy a 570 square meter property from the innkeeper Gerhard Kösters. The building site has a connection to the mill property. A drawing guide based on old photos, including the container by the architect Heinz-Gert Lambers from Osterwald. The interests of finding sponsors for our funding-conscious construction project were limited.
After long negotiations with the Ribo Foundation, Zwolle - Netherlands, we won for our plan. A contract between the building contractor Keen from Osterwald, Ribo and other authorities with the administration building sum of € 97,000 was sold. The same construction sum for rights (€ 90,632.00 + € 14,501.00 VAT) € 105,133.00. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on May 17th, 2003. The Ribo administration financed the project with 50% EU funds (maximum 38,207, - € without VAT). The district contributed with € 14,827. There was also a private one on favorable terms. The remaining financing of the mill association, the authorization and personal contributions of the members and the sponsors of the association. The foundation stones and floor slabs made of Bentheim sandstones were donated. These stones are used as a substructure for the half-timbered houses on the moorland. The following companies were involved in the reconstruction under the direction of the architect Heinz.Gert Lambers and the building contractor Keen, Osterwald:

  • Assembly construction - sawmill Brünink and Smoor, Osterwald
  • Friedrich Junge joinery, Georgsdorf
  • Heating - u. Sanitary Bernd Evers, Veldhausen
  • BWS Fugbetrieb, Georgsdorf
  • Plaster u. Stuck Wolts, Neuenhaus

The topping-out ceremony took place on June 7, 2003.

With the installation of the entrance gate (the "Vöardöare") to the hall on March 9th, 2004 the construction work is completed. The miller's house is a successful addition to the mill and a further beautification of the village.
